After my previous post on ’empties‘ I felt it about time to update you guys on some more key products I’ve been using, literally until they run empty. As a blogger I’m often asked to review new launches or try out products before they’re on the market. But the truth is I only truly love a small proportion of them. That means there are so many products I don’t rate enough to put on the blog. Whilst I do love trying new bits and pieces, there are always a core selection of products that I can’t live without. Ones that I always come back to, that work. They’re the product’s I’ll use until empty and those I’ll always replace because they really are, that great.
Eye Makeup Remover
The Nivea Daily Essentials Makeup Remover (reduced to just £1.75 in Superdrug) is a dream. No unnecessary scrubbing of the delicate eye area. Just shake, apply to cotton wool and swipe.
It even removes waterproof eye make-up and is so gentle on lashes. Over the years I’ve tried so many eye makeup removers. From expensive oils to simple organic removers, nothing has been as good as this one. It’s designed for sensitive skin so no red eyes but best of all it doesn’t leave them looking tired. Quite the opposite.
Eye Cream
Now this is more than I’d normally spend on an eye cream. Or dinner for two. Or two bottles of luxury Champagne… It’s an expensive eye cream, ok? The Guerlain Orchidée Impériale Eye and Lip Cream (£135 for 15ml) is a treat but let me tell you. It lasts for months and months. You only need a tiny bit around the eye area and instantly they’ll feel more perky, hydrated and cared for. I’ve definitely noticed the lines around my eyes have been held at bay (even after sleepless nights). It’s a product I’d recommend to anyone over the age of 25 who are serious about their skincare.
Lip Balm
You’ll have seen Burts Bees featured on my blog before (‘Colour Explosions The Natural Way’) and on my Instagram. I’m such a huge fan of the brand and their products. Organic, natural and it actually works. The newest addition to their collection and part of the #Bringbackthebees campaign is this gorgeous (and now empty) Coconut and Pear Beeswax Lip Balm. For every balm sold, 5,000 bee friendly wildflower seeds will be planted. It’s moisturising, hydrating and doesn’t leave lips greasy. In my opinion, it even makes my lips look a little plumper. It’s made mostly from beeswax, coconut oil, shea butter and pear so your lips will love you.
Snake Mask
At £68, it’s an indulgent mask that when bought outright could save you hundreds in salon facials. You’re probably thinking how can you compare it to a salon facial? Well, it’s really that great.
The Snake Mask by Rodial can be used once or twice a week. Personally I use it about once a month when I have the time to really invest in my skincare so depending on use, it can really last.
To use, simply apply a really thin layer, leave for 15-20 minutes to dry, then peel off. It’s not super painful but you will feel a pull. Ultimately it deeply cleanses your skin, decongesting those pores and leaves skin firm and bright.
It’s one of Rodial’s best selling products and is available in Space NK, Selfridges and other good luxury retailers. It contains oxygenated, viper-inspired neuropeptide to help lift the face, freeze muscles and plump fine lines and wrinkles.
Moisture Surge
The Clinique Moisture Surge range has been incredible for me over the past few months. As my hormones change (6 months pregnant will do that), my skin has needed lots of fresh air, water and makeup free days. At the moment I wear full on makeup about twice a week. So I use the Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief (£34) morning and night and top up with the face spray whenever I can. Even over makeup for a dewy effect.
The face cream is light and comfortable to wear. Don’t be under the misconception that you need a thick, full duty cream to give your skin moisture as often that’s when skin becomes clogged and break outs happen. Light, quality products are what your skin needs. My skin drank this and it finished within about two months. Not bad cost per wear!
