What I Bought Today At River Island

November 30, 2015

This weekend was a gratifying long one thanks to taking Friday and Monday off work. Right now at GQ we’re exceptionally busy in the run up to Christmas, especially with grooming and gift giving focuses so it was nice to take a couple of days off for some much needed R&R. My deliciously indulgent morning began with a lazy lie in and then a quick getting ready for a hair appointment at the wonderful Vidal Sassoon in Covent Garden, (post coming soon). I met Daniel for a spot of lunch at Kopapa where I took care of the most delectable poached eggs with chilli oil, natural yoghurt and toast (check out the pics on Instagram).

Surprisingly, rather than spend time online for the Black Friday sales I avoided the digital sphere all day and instead went into a real store. Now I’ve nothing against online shopping it’s just that personally, I much rather the whole enjoyment of trying something on, deciding whether to purchase, feeling the quality and texture etc.

With the mass market, urban niches and chic stylists already propelling River Island’s brand awareness, it goes without saying that they’re really killing it at the moment when it comes to cool, affordable clothing. They’ve no problem with in store footfall and their online website is one of the biggest, unparalleled high street retailers.

I adore a black staple and a roll neck is a must have in any girls wardrobe this season. Easy to wear, uncomplicated to accessorise and straightforward styling this roll neck costs just £20 (click here to buy). It’s warm, long sleeved and best of all, I went down a dress size in this.

The A line skirt caught my eye immediately hanging up in store and at just £32, I’d have been mad not to have bought it, (click here to buy). I love the A shape because it’s fitted on the waist and hips and great for those with a more 8 shaped figure like me, or for creating a silhouette on those who have a more athletic, straight up straight down shape. They’re also available in lots of other colours so the red is definitely on my list of things to buy. Check out the navy wool version too!
