Urban Essentials: Long Padded Coats

The Urban Edit:

What To Buy & How To Style

Slowly but surely, trainers, caps and padded coats have been slipping in to my wardrobe. I’ve always had a section for ‘practical’ pieces in my room but more recently, perhaps because I’m a mum now, the collection has grown bigger than ever. I’ve a huge craving for comfort and practicality.

Being realistic, my life isn’t as full of West End lunches, nights out with the girls and flashy meetings with General Managers anymore. Adding Covid-19 to the mix and life really isn’t as glamorous as it once was – that goes for everyone not just me. So anything I can throw on that’s going to keep me warm and comfortable throughout the day is a winner.

Just as history has shown, as the economy changes so does fashion. So as I sit here looking out of the window at the dreary weather, soak in the delicious smell of my three year old cuddled up to me on the sofa and drink my lovely hot chocolate, it’s got me thinking about all of the amazing coats I’ve seen that I’m leaning towards. I don’t know about you but as soon as it turned Oct 1st, I instantly turned to A/W mode!

So today, I’m talking quilted coats. Beautiful long padded coats that are literally like wrapping yourself in a sleeping bag. I’ve compiled my favourite high end and high street long padded coats below – let me know what you think!

Long Padded Coats

Padded coats, especially long length ones can be a bit overwhelming. The sheer size of them is enough to put some people off but there are ways of wearing them without letting them drown you. I like to keep my outfit underneath this brown one pretty simple (here I’ve gone for ripped black jeans and a simple white vest). I also prefer a small, simple cross body bag (like this See By Chloé one) rather than a big tote or backpack – small accessories are definitely best. I’ll always wear a flat shoe with a long padded coat, usually trainers (here I’ve gone for my Gucci Ace ones) but chunky trainers also look great. You can get away with those in between hair wash days with a cap too. I love the Yankees ones, they’re timeless and classic and can last for years.
