How To Look Luxury On A Budget

Shopping For

Luxe Looking Pieces

A beautiful outfit does not have to be expensive in order to look sophisticated and luxurious. It all comes down to knowing what to look out for, taking notice of details and shopping right. I take such pleasure in looking around shops, touching things (ok maybe less so during Covid) and admiring pieces that are a little bit extra special.

When it comes to finding inspiration, I have to admit, I do always start with my favourite luxury brands. I am not, however, in the top 10% of the UK wealth divide so splashing thousands of pounds on blazers, dresses, shirts and coats every week to look like my favourite models in Vogue is not an option for me. I generally shop with what I can afford and for bigger investments (like my favourite small bags and shoes) I’ll save up for a bit and choose something really special.

Once I’ve taken inspiration from my favourite luxury brands (Bottega Veneta, Alexander Mcqueen and Saint Laurent to name a few) I’ll look at how the shops on the high street are interpreting their styles. Some do them really well. Take the sell-out Chanel Dad Sandal look a-likes at Dune for instance or the Prada boot dupes at Public Desire. They’re great for one season without heavily investing. It’s not all about dupes though, it’s the finishing touches and classic pieces in elegant cuts.

Today is the last day of Paris Fashion Week and like many fashion followers, I’ve been glued to my screen catching up on what Chanel, Miu Miu and Louis Vuitton. are doing for S/S. So much attention has been paid to the small details, like the tiny bag necklaces at Chanel, cinched in high waist mini skirts under vinyl coats and even clashing fabrics like corduroy and silk. It’s given me lots of ideas for new luxury inspired looks.

Styling Tips

Let’s start with the obvious. Freshly painted nails, tidy brows and clean, washed hair will always elevate an outfit not to mention your mood and confidence. Whenever I’ve just had my hair done or had fresh shellac, I feel better in myself, more groomed, more ‘put together’. Now let’s get on to the fun stuff… styling. I always look for a handful of things when considering if something is ‘luxe for less’. Sartorial style (cut and fit), attention to fabric, style of footwear, gold accents and of course, the all important finishing touches. Right now I’m loving sunglass chains – I definitely think they add a touch of Hollywood glamour to any outfit! Click on an image to shop my edits below.
