“The truth is… the truth is I used to make shoes for lizards…”
Manolo: The Boy Who Made Shoes For Lizards
There’s nothing quite like a good fashion film. Well researched, a feast for the eyes and more clothes and accessories than you’d imagine Gigi Hadid to own. There are so many amazing fashion films to compete with, from The September Issue to The Devil Wears Prada so you can imagine how delighted I was to hear that there was another incredible film to add to the list. A film about the iconic shoe designer, Manolo Blahnik.
This season sees the launch of the hugely anticipated Manolo Blahnik film. Yesterday I was due to sit on a panel for a Q&A at the premier of the film in Mayfair but with a newborn I had to pull out last minute. I was super disappointed but I’d been lucky enough to get a private pre-screening of the film before hand. And it’s definitely worth the watch. Four lucky winners from my Instagram competition got to go and see the film before anyone else too and lets just say it didn’t disappoint them either.
Shoe Obsessed
The film is jam packed with colour, design and his gorgeous sense of humour. It sees Anna Wintour confessing her uninterrupted adoration for his shoes as well as a host of famous faces from Naomi Campbell, Sofia Coppola, John Galliano and Rihanna.
Written and directed by Michael Roberts, we learn the story of his upbringing and where he finds his inspiration. We also learn the sheer gravitas of his influence in the fashion world and beyond. Known as ‘the emperor of shoes’, it’s great to see that he loves magazines as much as I do too! In the film you’ll see that he really is the definition of a true creative.
