What Is Fashion Lego & Where Does One Shop For It?

Building blocks that create outfits…

If you read my previous post on how I would design my own September fashion issue you’ll have seen me talk about ‘fashion lego’. Essentially fashion lego are those wardrobe staples, the basics on which we can create beautiful and timeless looks. For the new season I’m building a capsule wardrobe based around investment buys (pieces I can wear over and over without looking like I have nothing else to wear) and ‘must-have’ statement buys. You don’t have to be a millionaire to look chic and stylish this season because even the high street stores are nailing those luxe for less looks.

Shopping

I bought these pointed white sling backs at the start of Summer. I knew I could team them with over 30 outfits that I already had. The secret to shopping for fashion lego is think about what you already own but also think clean. Think neutral palettes, steer back from print overloads and keep it simple. Textures are really good to consider and a pop of colour works really well but keep it casual with a pair of jeans and cross body for the day or minimal accessories and heels for the evening. This Autumn/Winter it’s not about zany eclecticism; instead it’s stripping it down to key wardrobe pieces that every woman should own. So whether you’re shopping for A line skirts with the best knee high boots and cashmere jumpers, sharp blazers with the perfect white tee’s, killer heels or chic LBD’s here’s a guide to get you started…

The Edit

A fashion lego essential, the updated blazer elevates an outfit making it smarter and giving a more mature sense of style. I love a signature blazer that lasts years so it’s well worth investing in one that you love and will integrate seamlessly into your existing wardrobe.

Ditch the complicated and fussy tops and invest in some basics that’ll last through the season and beyond. Inject some lace, a logo tee or two, some stripes and some neutral colours and your lego set is complete.

Bringing a modern mix of femininity and practicality, high waisted trousers are big this season. I love them belted, cropped and high waisted (especially to hide a post baby bump or those extra cals you’ve been eating). Wear with a simple t-shirt and slides or dress up for the office with a shirt and some ankle boots.

This season we’re evolving from the Gucci slip on mule and becoming more weather appropriate with covered backs. There are so many iterations of the humble flat this Autumn/Winter including some bold statement colours and embellished gems.
