Date-Night Styling: Understated Elegance

The New Way Of

Dressing For Date Night

I’m sitting here reflecting on the year so far. From style and attitudes to the tough times and economic problems, it’s clear that everyone has suffered in one way shape or form. As we segue in to the colder months we are more used to our new ‘normal’ (masks, social distancing etc.) and making the most of the small things that bring us joy.

Many more of us work from home now, or are on the hunt for jobs or trying our hand at new start ups. It’s likely that our wardrobes have become a lot more casual than they once were. The same can be said for date night outfits. With cinemas, theatres, plays and various restaurants having less of an appeal as they once did, when I do go out, I’m definitely ‘under-dressing’ more than I used to.

So I thought I’d share my favourite low-key styles for date night and nights out. These looks are chic, classic and timeless with minimal fuss. I love a less ‘put together’ look (especially one that takes seconds to put together) and these require minimal effort. Forget over-styling the hair, fussy jewellery and over the top frills, these looks are elegant and sophisticated and not at all ‘try-hard’.

The great thing about pared-back looks, especially when pregnant, is that you can still put your own twist on things. Play with sizing (I went up two sizes in this beautiful Topshop dress to accommodate by growing bump), experiment with shoes and bags (my favourite Kurt Geiger heels in this post are last season).. The idea here is to look relaxed, confident and ready for a good time!.

Since I have pulled back my spending on going ‘out out’ outfits, I’ve become more thoughtful in my choices. I want date night pieces that stand the test of time, ones that are chic and minimal rather than whatever is the latest ‘it’ thing. So with this in mind I’ve curated an edit of my favourite understated outfits for date-nights, for now and the foreseeable future!
