Layering Essentials For This Season

Well the last few days have firmly established that Autumn is now in full swing! It’s one of my favourite seasons because the changes in nature is are just beautiful. The weather however has little to be desired but it’s a good excuse to start playing around with layers!

I’ve resigned my Birkenstock sandals until next year, got my furry Ugg slippers out and my cosy dressing gown is getting a lot of use during evenings curled up in front of the TV with a hot chocolate. My wardrobe is filling up with big, oversized knits and I’ve been busy organising my clothes, working out which coat goes with which outfit. Even my beauty cabinet has had a bit of an overhaul as I prepare my complexion and skin for the colder months.

Layering is great not only because you can rework Summer outfits and focus on the longevity of your clothes but also because there are lots of tricks that even I am still learning. Layering is one of the more joyful sets of style hacks because you can make so many more outfits out of what you already have.

Accommodating my baby bump has given me a great excuse to scour the internet and browse the shops for lots of new bits. I still upsize main sizing where possible but I have to be honest, I’ve been pleasantly surprised at what maternity style has to offer too. So I’ve done all of the hard work for you and compiled my list of what to buy and tricks to bear in mind when putting together outfits for the colder months. Now, back to my pumpkin spiced latte….

Styling Tips

If you decide to buy something new, consider its versatility and wearability. Basics like a white shirt, roll necks and belts go a long way during Autumn/Winter.

Don’t be afraid to double up on your outerwear. Some of the best outfits include a blazer and a coat either on top or over the shoulders.

For true chic style, stick to muted colours or even go all out and colour block with one. Keep textures varied and lengths interesting. Belts, shoes, bags and jewellery can instantly switch up a day time outfit to an evening outfit, especially when you’re wearing layers!

For the first time in a long time, double knitwear is a trend we’ve all got on board with. Experiment with knitted or soft leggings, big oversized jumpers, cashmere bralets and scarfs.
