Style Hack: The Joy Of Mixing Textures

November 2, 2020

One Of The Easiest Style Tricks For

Elevating An Outfit

How many times have you put something on and felt like something is missing? Firstly, step away from the accessories because less is more. Trust me I learned that the hard way after years over-doing it. Whenever I feel that something’s needed, I realise I’m probably missing some texture.

Look at your favourite fashion bloggers or fashion magazines and chances are the most interesting outfits will combine different texture. Whether it’s the warm buttery leather against soft, cosy shearling or hard metal jewellery against a silk blouse, texture is the key to lifting your look and making it that little bit more modern. Whether biker boots and knitted leggings are your thing or corduroy and silk, mixing texture can transition even the most basic of outfits in to a new season.

I’m big on texture at the moment. Those of you who follow my daily outfits over on my Instagram will see that I love to combine delicate wool-blend pieces with chunky leather bags, vinyl coats with knitted dresses and even soft, elasticated sock-style boots with tough jeans. I learned that when I focus on contrasting fabrics, improving my style becomes so much easier.

Recently I wanted to add something to my wardrobe that I haven’t paid much attention to before – corduroy. Regular readers will know how much I absolutely adore A.P.C so I couldn’t resist this tobacco coloured corduroy tote bag. Paired with a gorgeous Staud dress and some leather loafers, it’s the perfect nod to Autumn, made more unique by my personalised jewellery and choice of perspex sunglasses. Read on for my edit of favourite textured pieces!
