Why I’ve been so excited to share this…
It’s been a while since my last post. There’s a reason. I’ve been squirrelling away finishing some private appointments and getting ready for my new launch. To give you some background, I’ll start at the beginning. My husband works for a top London ad agency and I spent 8 years working for market-leading UK magazines. So you could say digital is a big part of my life.
My career was spent liaising with luxury brands – convincing them to advertise in print and online. I did this by showing the value of the title’s readership, audience demographics and editorial content. Giving them the reasons why they should advertise. In short, I got brands to spend (over the years) millions of pounds on advertising in magazines and on websites. You had to know who’s who in the luxury industry and know how to communicate professionally. It was very full on and I adored every moment.
The Business Of Blogging
My background meant that when it came to it, I was able to go full time after a year and a half blogging. Whilst some of the contacts in my little black book were different, the business of partnerships/sponsorships is the same. You need to know how to talk to PR’s, brands and ad agencies whilst keeping the integrity of your content. Keeping it fresh and interesting for your readers. I’m always asked by brands, PR’s and ad agencies about the business of blogging. Bloggers also ask me about my time at GQ, ELLE, Cosmo, Sunday Times Style etc. and what I’ve learned. Well, what I learned is how to manage campaigns, how to negotiate and how to not (despite others doing so) sell ourselves short.
Alongside blogging I offer personal styling and brand consulting. I’ve helped a few small businesses and bloggers already. I know this isn’t relevant to many of you who are just here for the fashion and beauty, so for that reason, I’ve launched an entirely new site – StyleFinding.com. It’s dedicated to blogging tips for bloggers and my business services.
StyleFinding.com’s been created to share my blogger/business tips. I didn’t want blog tips on Sassy In The City – the blog will always be about fashion, beauty and advice. The same way I hope Vogue and other luxe mags would never start sharing tips on how to start your own magazine in every issue. So if you want to know what tips bloggers can take from top Chinese fashion influencers, or how having less than 2000 followers can still mean you’re entitled to a slice of the blogging business, come take a look. StyleFinding.com.
I’ll be uploading blog tips twice a week on everything related to the business of blogging. So you can get your fill. For brands and small businesses needing a hand with their marketing/digital branding (or those who would like to book me as a personal stylist), you can also contact me through the site. It’s all there for you.
My Blog Plans
With a baby due in 25 days (gulp) I know I’m being a complete workaholic. I thought it’d be easy scheduling posts for Sept/Oct and Nov for Sassy In The City and Little In The City. But the reality is that when you’re a full time blogger, you can’t compromise on quality or stories. So it takes an age to get things published.
All in all I think I’m doing ok 8 and a half months in to this pregnancy but I’ll need to slow down now. I know I’m piling on the work for myself. My friends and my husband tell me all the time. It’s only when I see a worried eyebrow raised by a client who clocks my enormous belly as I arrive for a meeting in London’s west end though that I really pay attention. Then reality kicks in.
Going forward I’ll be posting content on Sassy In The City, Little In The City and StyleFinding.com once/twice a week on each site baby is here and settled.
I’d love to know what you think about StyleFinding.com.
